Dental Implant FAQs

What is a dental implant?   A dental implant is a permanent new root for a missing tooth. It is a titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone. An abutment and crown is then placed on the implant to provide a new tooth that is permanent and looks just like a natural tooth.

How are dental implants different than dentures?   Dentures are a removable set of teeth, or partial set of teeth, that need to be removed and cared for in a special manner. They can often feel bulky and it can be difficult to get used to dentures.  Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth that can be cared for just like natural teeth. They look and feel like natural teeth.

Is there any way I can have my new set of teeth the same day as they are removed?   With TeethXpress or Immediate Load Implants, dentures are supported by implants so they are secure and won't slip or shift in your mouth, which helps when eating or speaking.  This secure fit helps man-made teeth feel more natural than bridges or dentures.  The roof of the mouth is not covered as it is with dentures.  The best part is you leave with replacement teeth the same day the implant is placed.

What are the benefits of dental implants?   Dental implants look and feel just like real teeth, they are permanent, you can eat the foods you want without any fear of embarrassment, and the procedure is very successful and cost effective.

Who can place a dental implant?    With years of professional collaboration in our background, we work together with highly highly trained Oral Surgeons who will place the implant along with any bone grafting (or ridge preservation) that is necesary to ensure the stability of the implant.  When the healing period is over, in our office, we will place an implant restoration that is custom to you.

How much do implants cost?   The price of your dental implants will vary based on the location of the implants, the need for additional surgical procedures such as bone grafting, anesthesia options, how many implants you are having placed, amount of insurance coverage, and more.   Schedule a consultation with us to determine and estimate for your treatment and a financing plan, if necessary.

Does it hurt to get an implant?   No. A local anesthetic will be given before the procedure so that you do not feel any pain. If you have anxiety or fear you should discuss sedation options with your dentist.

How long do implants last?   When cared for properly, implants should last a lifetime. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental visits are critical to the success of your implant.
